8 Unique Ways to Spend a Weekend in Liverpool (From The Experts)

8 Unique Ways to Spend a Weekend in Liverpool (From The Experts)

From foodie goldmines and drinking hideaways, to an array of historical and cultural hotspots…deciding how to spend a weekend in Liverpool can be pretty overwhelming.

(And as providers of luxury short stay apartments, we would know.)

But if you’re looking for something really unique, then look no further.

We asked some of the city’s biggest leisure and hospitality providers what they could give us to do in Liverpool. What they came back with will have us planning our visit this autumn…

Liverpool Wakepark

For a new and exciting way to experience the docks, Liverpool Wakepark will certainly shake things up.
“Liverpool Wakepark is a unique and exiting tourist attraction in the heart of Liverpool’s iconic docks, just a 15 minute walk from Liverpool city centre,” the guys at the park say.

“We have two cable systems that tow wakeboarders over the water. The wakeboarders ride the systems continuously by turning around at each end.

“It is a very easy sport to learn and has an amazing and quick progression ladder for developing and improving. Every time you come down for a ride you can learn new tricks or hit different obstacles.

“We have a 100% success rate with our beginners. If you don’t get up riding we will even give you your money back!

“Wakeboarding is a sport for a wide variety of ages and abilities. We run kids’ clubs, ladies only sessions and are an amazing venue for stag and hen parties. We love teaching anyone from beginners to the British team.
“Once you’ve tried it, you’ll be coming back for more!”

Shiverpool

With October coming up and the approach of Halloween, you’ll be hard pushed to find a better activity than Shiverpool.

Winner of Best Guided Tour in England at the National Tourism Awards 2017, Shiverpool really does promise to chill and thrill in equal measure on its famous city walking shows.

On the whole experience, the Shiverpool gang say: “If you fancy experiencing the other side to Liverpool’s nightlife then get involved in a Shiverpool experience. With fun frights and city sights, up-end the history books on this alternative tour and try something different after-dark.

“Take a deep breath and lose yourself within the shadows of the city’s creepier corners and discover what lies beneath the ancient thoroughfares of this seafaring town with the country’s most innovative storytellers.”

Oh Me Oh My

For a peaceful, relaxed Friday, Saturday or even Sunday evening, we recommend rooftop bar Oh Me Oh My.

Set above Liverpool’s busy streets opposite the ‘Three Graces’, this little haven is just the thing for making the most of the remaining milder evenings.

“Our vision was to create a casual and creative space; a tea house and cafe through the week and a unique events space by night and weekends,” says Dannielle, events co-ordinator.

“Oh Me Oh My is a relaxed and beautiful space to meet, think, eat, drink and hold an event.

“Our soundtrack takes you on a journey back to the era of a Parisian cafe society. French speakeasy classics rub shoulders with contemporary soul and jazz to soothe your mind.”

The Cavern Club

Of course, no weekend in Liverpool could be complete without a stop at the Cavern Club.

Pop in for a lunchtime drink and a gaze at the Beatles memorabilia, or settle down for an evening of live music…The Cavern boasts an array of precious Liverpool history more than any other music venue.

“The Cavern Club is the most famous club in the world,” explains Cavern director Jon Keats.

“It first opened its doors 60 years ago, originally as a jazz venue, and today it is a major tourist destination as well as a thriving live music venue.

“Visitors to the Cavern today can hear non-stop live music, celebrating all of the iconic artists to have graced our stage over the last 60 years; The Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones, Queen, Stevie Wonder, Oasis, Adele …the list goes on.

“The Beatles played here a staggering 292 times. Without this, would there still be such world-wide interest in this basement club? Probably not.

“But they did, and since then, the Cavern has become a British institution and a world famous, iconic venue, attracting thousands of visitors every week from all over the world

“We have just been voted for the second year running, number 9 in the most visited landmarks in the UK! Just another reason why you should step in for a visit next time you’re in Liverpool.”

The Philharmonic

As one of Liverpool’s oldest institutions, The Philharmonic has also played its part in shaping the city’s music history and culture.

Catch a night of live classical music performed by one of the oldest orchestras in the world; watch a globally acclaimed artist play in an intimate setting or see a unique showing of your favourite movie (complete with live film score), The Philharmonic delivers it all in its beautiful, iconic art-deco theatre.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic said: “The Grade II* listed Liverpool Philharmonic Hall is the home of the award-winning Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and one of the UK’s premier arts and entertainment venues.

“It presents wide-ranging programme of the best in classical, contemporary, rock, pop, folk and roots music, comedy and film, shown on its unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen. The small, more intimate Music Room at the rear of the main Hall gives audiences the opportunity to get closer to live music, with a programme complementing that in the main auditorium.”

What makes this park even more unique, however, is that it’s also home to a secret garden!

The Calderstone’s Secret Garden can be found hidden behind bushes and a gate. And on the 7th-9th October, the garden will become even more exciting as it becomes an outdoor cinema!

Showing Hollywood classics such as Pulp Fiction, Grease, The Breakfast Club and When Harry Met Sally, this cosy event will be an awesome way to spend an autumn evening.

Tickets are available for the cinema now; however, you’ll need to figure out the location of the garden for yourself.

Directions will be emailed to ticket-buyers the week before the event. Just remember to keep it secret!
